Can I please get some opinions. My employer is requesting that they be informed if an employee is taken offsite for a non occ injury or illness. If not providing the name or the reason does anyone find any issues with this? My concern is that safety will take that info and run with it trying to find out who, why they were taken etc to “prove” it was not work related. I feel this will totally discredit the confidentiality of reporting to the onsite health center even if the info does not come from me.
If this was a non occ health injury then why would they need that information? Would we not just note the employee is off work and then medical would be submitted by the employee to support the time off through the disability management.
Hi Jennipher, you will need to advise the manager that their worker is going off-site for further assessment for occ or non-occ injury/illness. You do not need to indicate diagnosis/treatment or type of doctor they are seeing (e.g., psychiatrist for mental health, cardiologist for cardiovascular health, etc.). Management needs to know for staffing replacement worker and payroll coding reasons. As for Occ Injury/Illness, Management needs to know for tracking determining the type of injury (first aid, medical aid, modified work, lost time accidents) and they also need to know for re-evaluating hazard controls to prevent injuries to other workers.
